On this date in 1936 Wilt Chamberlain was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chamberlain, who died on October 12, 1999 at the age of 63, was the most prolific center in the history of the NBA scoring over 35,000 points in his career including the playoffs. Wilt also corralled almost 28,000 rebounds throughout his career. Chamberlain, also known as “the Big Dipper,” holds the NBA record for points in a game scoring 100 points on March 2, 1962 in a game in Hershey, PA against the New York Knicks. Wilt scored his 100 points on 36-63 shooting from the floor and 28-32 from the charity stripe, scoring 59 of his 100 points in the second half.
