Similar to the NFL Weekly Picks that we do here at The Quarterback Blog, we’ll be adding an extra layer of predictions to our series of NCAA Football Bowl Games Picks.
The rules are that for each of the 35 bowl games being played in the upcoming weeks, each bowl game will be ranked from 1-35 with games ranked at 35 being “most confident” and games ranked at 1 being “least confident.” Each game prediction that is won, will earn that bowl game’s points. The staffer with the most points wins, not necessarily the most games predicted that turned up correct.
2013-2014 NCAA FOOTBALL BOWL GAME PREDICTIONS
GILDAN NEW MEXICO BOWL: WASHINGTON STATE vs. COLORADO STATE
CODY: (1) All I know about Washington State is that Ryan Leaf went there and he was a gigantic flop. However, I know less about Colorado State… Washington State.
DAN: (7) Washington State, despite their 6-6 record, had solid wins at USC, at Arizona and against Utah while suffering losses against strong opponents with their worst loss being against Oregon State. CSU really didn’t have any big wins and should struggle against Washington State’s 4th overall passing offense. I think Washington State takes this.
JOHN: (6) The state of Colorado has a total area of 104,094 sq mi. Washington state, although large as well, only has 71,300 sq mi. That means that Colorado is 32,794 sq mi larger. Colorado State!
CHRIS: (10) Connor Halliday and the pass-happy Cougar offense should be able to score often as Colorado State doesn’t exactly boast the Steel Curtain for a defense. They ranked 75th in points allowed and 118th in passing yards allowed. Washington State wins this one.
ROYAL PURPLE LAS VEGAS BOWL: FRESNO STATE vs. USC
CODY: (9) USC will be on their second interim coach of the season for this one and I cannot envision them being excited for this game. However, the same could be said for Fresno State who could have be playing in a BCS game instead of this one. I think that Fresno’s passing is enough to the job done against the Trojans. Fresno State.
DAN: (16) The first bowl game featuring two Top 25 opponents slates a #20 Fresno State against the #25 USC Trojans. USC struggled early under Lane Kiffin but managed to turn their season around with his firing. Fresno State will bring the #1 passing offense in college football averaging over 400-yards through the air per game. I think the depth of the Pac-12 shows here over the MWC. USC wins.
JOHN: (10) Fresno States’ campus is 228 miles north of USC. That is so far above USC. Fresno State!
CHRIS: (5) Speaking of pass-happy, Fresno State QB Derek Carr was first in the nation with over 4,800 yards and 48 touchdowns. Yikes. He has a pair of 1,000 yard receivers at his disposal with Davante Adams (1,645 yds, 23 TD’s) and Josh Harper (1,011-13). So they like to sling it. USC played well down the stretch after firing Lane Kiffin, winning six of eight, including a win over Stanford. This should be a high-scoring affair and I like Fresno State to come out on top.
FAMOUS IDAHO POTATO BOWL: BUFFALO vs. SAN DIEGO STATE
CODY: (24) The UB Bulls are un-bull-ievable. I have watched more UB football than anybody that did not attend the school should admit and their defense is quite solid against mid-major talent. Buffalo wins.
DAN: (18) Both of these teams will be traveling far from home in this one. The weather should favor Buffalo, who features a potential 1st Round Draft selection in Khalil Mack. Buffalo brings in a defense ranked 27th in the FBS which should help propel them to victory.
JOHN: (20) Per capita there is a larger population of Irish-Americans in Buffalo than there is in San Diego. Therefore, ipso facto, Buffalo consumes more potatoes per capita. Buffalo!
CHRIS: (18) The UB Bulls love to play some defense. If you haven’t caught a Bulls game this season, you should watch this one so you can get better acquainted with Khalil Mack. The MAC Defensive Player of the Year tallied 94 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions this season. Pretty impressive. He’ll be playing on Sundays next fall. He’ll lead Buffalo to victory.
R+L CARRIERS NEW ORLEANS BOWL: TULANE vs. LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE
CODY: (2) What in the world is R+L Carriers? Louisiana-Lafayette.
DAN: (17) La-La and Tulane battle for their state of Louisiana. Tulane plays this one in their backyard which should favor them and their stout defense. Offensively, Tulane struggles moving the ball and Louisiana-Lafayette can pound it in the running game. I think the Ragin’ Cajuns take this one down.
JOHN: (8) R+L Carriers is based in Ohio. That has nothing to do with these two teams from Louisiana. This game, though, is being held in Louisiana which is nice. The colors in the R+L Carriers are green and white. So are Tulane’s. Tulane!
CHRIS: (4) Joe Montana’s son Nick plays QB for Tulane. That has to count for something. Tulane wins!
BEEF O’BRADY’S ST. PETERSBURG BOWL: EAST CAROLINA vs. OHIO
CODY: (3) Beef O’Bradys sounds like something that happens after a long night of drinking and eating bad food. ECU.
DAN: (26) ECU took down UNC and NC State this season with all 3 of their losses coming against bowl teams. ECU also averages over 40 per game. I like ECU here.
JOHN: (18) East Carolina is in North Carolina. Ohio is in Ohio. North Carolina has 373,024 beef cattle in their state. Ohio has 293,757. That’s a difference of 79,267 in favor of North Carolina. East Carolina!
CHRIS: (25) Ohio lost three of its final four games this season while East Carolina is gunning for their first 10-win season since 1991. ECU wins big time.
SHERATON HAWAII BOWL: BOISE STATE vs. OREGON STATE
CODY: (15) This would be the bowl game I would want to play in. I mean a free trip to Hawaii to play in a game it doesn’t matter if we win? Sign me up! Now on to the game, Boise will head into this game with an interim coach which will be strange. Oregon State will win because they have the better QB.
DAN: (2) I’m not so certain on this one. Both teams travel to Hawaii and all 4 of Boise State’s losses came on the road. With the exception of the EWU loss, Oregon State has good losses, but no significant wins. I think Boise State has a good chance, but I’m taking Sean Mannion and Oregon State here.
JOHN: (7) I’ve been to Boise and Corvallis. When I was in Corvallis I stayed in a Sheraton. Oregon State!
CHRIS: (7) The Sean Mannion-to-Brandin Cooks combo was lethal this season. Mannion passed for over 4,000 yards and Cooks won the Biletnikoff Award. I wish I was playing in this game. Free trip to Hawaii! Beavers win.
LITTLE CAESARS BOWL: PITTSBURGH vs. BOWLING GREEN
CODY: (10) Ah yes the long tradition of pizza related bowl games continues with the annual Little Caesars bowl in Detroit. Pittsburgh wins this game although Bowling Green will put up a fight.
DAN: (10) This one seems like a no-brainer, Pitt should trounce Bowling Green. But, Bowling Green had a strong 2013 handing Northern Illinois their only loss and winning games against Tulsa, Ohio and at Buffalo with a stout 5th-ranked defense. Pitt, however, beat some real teams with wins at Duke, at Syracuse and at home against Virginia, Notre Dame and New Mexico. It’s no secret that Pitt did struggle against some of the tougher ACC defenses, but Bowling Green isn’t an ACC defense. Pittsburgh wins.
JOHN: (9) Pittsburgh by one point. Pitt!
CHRIS: (8) For $5, you can’t beat a Hot-n-Ready pizza from Little Caesars. Not the highest of quality, but it works. Pitt had an up-and-down year. The one constant was Aaron Donald, who is a beast. Bowling Green beat previously unbeaten Northern Illinois to end their BCS Bowl Game hopes. Tough call. I’m going with the Panthers.
SAN DIEGO COUNTY CREDIT UNION POINSETTIA BOWL: UTAH STATE vs. NORTHERN ILLINOIS
CODY: (32) I have no idea about Utah State, but what I do know is that Jordan Lynch is incredible and he plays for Northern Illinois, so Northern Illinois wins.
DAN: (24) I’m not convinced Utah State is anything special. Colorado State was a good win, but they failed to overcome any of their tougher tests. Northern Illinois has something special in Jordan Lynch. He’ll show Utah State what that is when he dominates them. NIU wins.
JOHN: (29) Jordan Lynch has the most rushing yards by a QB in a season. Poinsettias are the most iconic flower during the Christmas season. Northern Illinois!
CHRIS: (30) Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch is a one-man wrecking crew. NIU wins this game by double digits.
MILITARY BOWL Presented by NORTHRUP GRUMMAN: MARSHALL vs. MARYLAND
CODY: (19) Does Byron Leftwich of Chad Penington play for Marshall still? No? Then I don’t really care. I think that Maryland was incredibly overrated to start the year, but I think they can handle the Thundering Herd. Maryland.
DAN: (1) Marshall is sneaky. They can score and they can move the ball with a Top 25 passing offense and rushing offense. Their offense averages 20 more points than their defense allows also. I think this is an instance of a good non-power conference team getting overpowered by a p0wer-conference opponent. I’m certain that the Thundering Herd can win this game, but I’m going with the Terps with a modest point allocation.
JOHN: (11) There are more military bases located in Maryland than there are in West Virginia. Maryland!
CHRIS: (9) Maryland was so close to knocking off Florida State earlier this season, but they fell just short by a score of 63-0. Marshall had the 7th best offense in the country this season. I’ll go Thundering Herd.
TEXAS BOWL: SYRACUSE vs. MINNESOTA
CODY: (7) Minnesota has played some inspired football this season given what as happened with their head coach. Syracuse’s offense is not that great and they struggled against big time ACC foes this season. I think that Minnesota wins this game, but with little confidence.
DAN: (20) I always go with the teams I root for, see all my weekly picks for the Bills games. I am a Syracuse fan, and will be rooting for the Orange to win. But, this team is not capable of beating Minnesota. Neither of these teams are really any good on offense making this likely to become a hard-nosed and low-scoring battle. The 54 and 52 points scored by Cuse against Wagner and Tulane skew what they have done on offense. Aside from those two wins, they’ve averaging 16.8 pts scored per game. I just don’t see them scoring more than that against a tough Big Ten defense in Minnesota.
JOHN: (16) The Texas Bowl is in Houston. Minnesota has 87 counties. One of them is Houston County. Minnesota!
CHRIS: (20) I will not be watching this game. I’ll go with the Gophers.
FIGHT HUNGER BOWL: BYU vs. WASHINGTON
CODY: (14) BYU put up ridiculous rushing numbers against Texas earlier this year and Washington will be without their coach for this one. However, I still think that Washington pulls this one out.
DAN: (3) BYU has shown they can be dominant on the ground. Washington can also run the ball quite effectively and they have the threat through the air. I think this is one of the better matched bowl games. Both teams have played a tough schedule, I think Washington pulls through.
JOHN: (5) The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints has a massive population of missionaries throughout the world. A large part of this global effort is goodwill based on charity. One example of charity is to feed the hungry. BYU!
CHRIS: (3) BYU likes to run the ball alot. That’s fun. Cougars win.
NEW ERA PINSTRIPE BOWL: RUTGERS vs. NOTRE DAME
CODY: (33) Bowl games in baseball stadiums, feel the excitement!!! Notre Dame had better beat Rutgers by 20 points in this one.
DAN: (25) This always seems to be a miserable game to watch. Notre Dame should dominate Rutgers. Rutgers may be 50 miles from home, but Notre Dame travels well.
JOHN: (28) Rutgers and Notre Dame are the two most popular college football teams in the New York City area according to TV ratings. That means that Notre Dame is the most popular team in NYC that isn’t located in the greater metro area. Notre Dame!
CHRIS: (26) This is a sad day for me. My favorite Notre Dame QB of recent memory is playing his final game. Oh Tommy Rees how I will miss you. I’ll miss your complete lack of mobility. I’ll miss your uncanny ability to throw an interception at the worst possible time (most notably in the 4th quarter against Pitt this year as you single-handedly ruined my first Notre Dame game). Ahh yes. You will most certainly be missed. I would say the Fighting Irish should win this game by three scores, but because of Tommy Rees, I say Rutgers keeps it close. Notre Dame still wins.
BELK BOWL: CINCINNATI vs. NORTH CAROLINA
CODY: (13) North Carolina wins. On a side note, what is Belk?
DAN: (11) North Carolina has some adequate wins, but nothing big. Then, Cincinnati has two awful road losses at Illinois and South Florida, but despite losing Munchie Legaux, they’re still 9-3 playing strong defense. I like the Cincinnati defense to shut down UNC and pull off an upset.
JOHN: (4) The first Belk department store was opened in North Carolina. Today there are 70 locations in the state. How many are in Cincinnati you ask? Zero. North Carolina!
CHRIS: (2) Cody, Belk is a delightful chain of department stores that are primarily located in the Southeast US. I’ll take the Bearcats because I haven’t watched a minute of either of these teams play this season and I’m only betting two points on it.
RUSSELL ATHLETIC BOWL: MIAMI (FL) vs. LOUISVILLE
CODY: (26) I watched Miami get absolutely eviscerated by Florida State earlier this year and I think that Teddy Bridgewater and Louisville is going to do the same.
DAN: (19) For a 1-loss team, Louisville really isn’t getting a whole lot of love. This looks to be the first game featuring two “big-time” teams this year. Louisville has played well on both sides of the ball and features only a loss to UCF on their resume. Miami has losses at VT, at Duke and against FSU. I like Teddy Bridgewater to take this one over in his final college game.
JOHN: (22) The Russell Athletic brand was founded in Bowling Green, KY which is near Louisville. However, this game is being played in Orlando which is nearer to Miami. Teddy Bridgewater is from Miami. Even though he was recruited by Miami, he chose Louisville. Oh well, that’s just water under the bridge at this point… Louisville!
CHRIS: (21) I heard rumblings that Teddy Bridgewater might return to school next season. I’m not buying it though. He’s not going to leave that much money on the table when he will probably be the top pick in the draft next year. This is his final showcase and I think he lights up Miami. Louisville wins.
BUFFALO WILD WINGS BOWL: MICHIGAN vs. KANSAS STATE
CODY: (17) Ahhhh Buffalo Wild Wings, a place that can leave you with awful Beef O’Brady’s in the morning. Michigan.
DAN: (15) Growing up, I used to love huddling around the tube just to get a glimpse of the storied Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl… Come on, Beef O’Brady’s wasn’t enough – we had to get a Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl? Kansas State upset a hot Texas Tech team, but also lost to North Dakota State. Not really anticipating much here other than a Michigan win. But even the Wolverines almost lost to UConn.
JOHN: (17) Of the 50 public or free-range herds of American Bison in North America, six of them are in Kansas. Only one of them is in Michigan. However, Michigan has 44 locations of Buffalo Wild Wings, and Kansas has only 9. Michigan!
CHRIS: (16) If you’re not going to Quaker Steak and Lube for your chicken wings, you’re doing it wrong. I hate Michigan, but I think they’ll win this one.
BELL HELICOPTER ARMED FORCES BOWL: MIDDLE TENNESSEE vs. NAVY
CODY: (18) Navy likes to run the ball… a lot.
DAN: (6) Navy looked dominant over Army. But it’s Army.
JOHN: (12) Middle Tennessee is appropriately named. It is really like right in the middle of Tennessee. Navy is on the coast which also makes sense because of water. Yet, the Navy has proven time and time again that they can win anywhere, whether it’s by land, sea or air. Navy!
CHRIS: (1) Keenan Reynolds runs the triple option to perfection. He rushed for over 1,200 yards and 29 TD’s this season. I’ll take the Midshipmen.
FRANKLIN AMERICAN MORTGAGE MUSIC CITY BOWL: OLE MISS vs. GEORGIA TECH
CODY: (23) When I think of Nashville I most definitely think of mortgages, Ole Miss.
DAN: (21) How do you not go with Ole Miss in this one? If Georgia Tech gets behind, they can’t recover.
JOHN: (27) The Ole Miss marching band was formed in 1928. The Georgia Tech band was founded in 1908. That’s a 20 year head start on playing music in cities all over the place. Georgia Tech!
CHRIS: (33) Ole Miss because the SEC beats the ACC (except in the BCS title game).
VALERO ALAMO BOWL: OREGON vs. TEXAS
CODY: (31) The Alamo Bowl is not played in the Alamo (or even in the basement of the Alamo). I think that Oregon wins this game because Texas cannot hang with the high flying Ducks.
DAN: (28) Oregon just crumbled after that Stanford loss. Nonetheless, they still did defeat a tough UCLA and went on the road to defeat Washington and Virginia. This essentially is a road game in San Antonio. Texas should struggle to keep up. Oregon wins.
JOHN: (30) Duck Dynasty. Oregon.
CHRIS: (27) Poor Oregon. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. The good news for Ducks fans is Marcus Mariota is coming back for his junior year. This is Mack Brown’s last game for the Longhorns and, unfortunately, I don’t think they’ll be able to send him out on a positive note. Oregon wins.
NATIONAL UNIVERSITY HOLIDAY BOWL: ARIZONA STATE vs. TEXAS TECH
CODY: (22) Is National University a real place? Is it like University of Phoenix or Bryant and Stratton? I have so many questions. As for the game I think that Arizona State recovers from a tough PAC-12 Championship game.
DAN: (30) Arizona State is a vastly underrated team. Sure, Stanford won on the road and at home against ASU. Notre Dame also came in and toppled the Sun Devils. But, they move the ball effectively and score points. Texas Tech airs it out, but is on a skid. Arizona State isn’t the type of team you want to play in that scenario.
JOHN: (26) Arizona State was totally Todd Graham’s dream job, and he totally deserves to win this game. He’s such a genuinely nice and honest guy. I am a liar. Arizona State!
CHRIS: (28) Texas Tech dropped its last five games after a 7-0 start. Ouch. Arizona State got smothered by Stanford in the Pac-12 title game but I still like them to win this bowl game that might be named after a fake learning institution.
ADVOCARE V100 BOWL: ARIZONA vs. BOSTON COLLEGE
CODY: (29) Two of the best running backs in the country face off in this game and I am going to pick Arizona because I don’t think that BC is that good.
DAN: (23) BC has been riding their rushing attack en route to this. Arizona has a stronger resume and ranks higher than BC in most categories. The stats say Arizona. Ka’Deem Carey vs. Andre Williams.
JOHN: (25) The game is being played in Independence Stadium. Boston and its inhabitants played an integral role in the fight for and the establishment of American independence. Arizona has only been a state since 1912. Boston College!
CHRIS: (22) Two good running backs match up in this one with Ka’Deem Carey of AZ and Andre Williams of BC. I think Carey has the bigger day and the Wildcats win.
HYUNDAI SUN BOWL: VIRGINIA TECH vs. UCLA
CODY: (27) UCLA has a much better QB in this game and that will propel them to victory.
DAN: (22) I like UCLA and Brett Hundley here. I think the Bruins have better wins and better losses than the Hokies, if there is such a thing as a good loss.
JOHN: (21) The Hyundai Motor Company has 6 research and development centers located around the world. One of them is in California. UCLA is in California. Coincidence? I think not. UCLA!
CHRIS: (11) Virginia Tech can match UCLA defensively but their offense isn’t nearly as good as Brett Hundley and the Bruins. UCLA takes this one.
AUTOZONE LIBERTY BOWL: RICE vs. MISSISSIPPI STATE
CODY: (28) I have to take Mississippi State here because I watched them play a game this year, while I didn’t even realize that Rice had a football team until a few weeks ago.
DAN: (31) Rice played admirably in C-USA this year. However, their best wins are Marshall and Tulane with Kansas as their only BCS conference win. Mississippi State only lost to bowl teams. I just have to go with the SEC strength here.
JOHN: (24) In 2008, AutoZone opened their 4,000th location in Houston, TX. Rice University is located in Houston. Rice!
CHRIS: (12) Rice won Conference-USA and Mississippi State is an SEC team that went 6-6. I’m going to take a gamble here and go with Rice.
CHICK-FIL-A BOWL: DUKE vs. TEXAS A&M
CODY: (20) I LOVE CHICK-FIL-A!!!! Johnny Football’s last game should end up in a lot of points. Duke will look better in this game than they did against Florida State in the ACC Championship, which isn’t saying much, but Texas A&M will win.
DAN: (27) Duke scored against Florida State, that was a plus. Johnny Manziel is going to the NFL (or so he hopes). This is his swan song. I think Texas A&M prevails, and I think Mike Evans dominates.
JOHN: (23) Texas A&M starting QB Johnny Manziel is from Tyler, TX. They have four Chick-fil-A locations in Tyler. Duke starting QB Anthony Boone is from Weddington, NC. They only have one Chick-fil-A. Texas A&M!
CHRIS: (31) Finally, a game with two ranked teams! Texas A&M will dominate this game with Johnny Football doing all sorts of magical Johnny Football stuff. The Aggies win by three scores.
TAXSLAYER.COM GATOR BOWL: NEBRASKA vs. GEORGIA
CODY: (6) This is the second straight season that these two teams have met in the Gator Bowl. This game will also more than likely not feature the starting QB’s for each team. I am going to take Georgia solely because the SEC is better than the BIG-10.
DAN: (8) The Bulldogs have defeated South Carolina and LSU and certainly have a more impressive resume than Nebraska this season. Nebraska is tough, but could struggle to hang with Georgia in this game.
JOHN: (13) The Federal tax revenue generated from the state of Georgia totaled $65,498,308,000 in 2012. Nebraska paid far less at $19,795,254,000. That doesn’t come as a surprise due to their population differences. However, the tax revenue ratio to gross state product (GSP) was 15.1% to 19.9% in favor of Georgia. Georgia!
CHRIS: (14) A very disappointing season for the Bulldogs as they were ranked 5th in the preseason. No Aaron Murray for Georgia but his replacement, Hutson Mason, should be able to throw on Nebraska. Georgia wins.
HEART OF DALLAS BOWL: UNLV vs. NORTH TEXAS
CODY: (12) I’m taking UNLV because they have had a relatively Cinderella like season.
DAN: (14) North Texas, because I know nothing about them and this is seemingly a home game for them.
JOHN: (14) The stars at night are big and bright… Deep in the heart of
Texas Dallas! North Texas!
CHRIS: (13) My roommate in college, Jake, would always start dynasties with North Texas in the NCAA College Football video game. I never understood why. He turned them into a powerhouse. This means nothing for this game but I’m taking North Texas.
CAPITAL ONE BOWL: WISCONSIN vs. SOUTH CAROLINA
CODY: (11) I think that the Ol’ Ball Coach will take it on he chin in this one, I’m taking Wisconsin.
DAN: (4) This should be one of the few SEC losses. Wisconsin has defense and can run the ball. South Carolina has defense and is adequate at moving the ball. Should be a real barn-burner.
JOHN: (3) Much of the South Carolina State House, the capital building in Columbia, was destroyed by General Sherman’s Union Army in 1865. It was rebuilt. Wisconsin’s capital building has never been destroyed. They’ve just always had the one. Capital One. Wisconsin!
CHRIS: (6) Despite a disappointing year from Jadeveon Clowney, the Gamecocks still had the 14th best scoring defense in the country. I’ll take South Carolina.
OUTBACK BOWL: IOWA vs. LSU
CODY: (34) LSU because, well, Iowa.
DAN: (29) Iowa struggled against tough defensive opponents, and features a defense that averaged less than 20 points allowed per game. LSU has a much stronger and improved offense than year’s past and has the ability to beat just about anybody. I like LSU here.
JOHN: (32) There is but one lonely Outback Steakhouse in Iowa City. Baton Rouge boasts three locations. LSU!
CHRIS: (34) No Zach Mettenberger for LSU? No problem, even against the Iowa defense which was 17th against the pass, 11th against the rush and allowed just 18 points per game. I’ll take LSU because, well, SEC.
ROSE BOWL GAME Presented by VIZIO: STANFORD vs. MICHIGAN STATE
CODY: (5) “The Granddaddy of them All” will be a test between two teams that are mirror images of each other and I think that Sparty’s defense will carry tem to victory. Michigan State can smell the roses.
DAN: (12) This is a test between two Top-10 defenses. The Spartans have improved in passing but Stanford has a more complete offense and a much stronger running game. I think this is a close, low-scoring game with Stanford winning.
JOHN: (15) A search of florists in Stanford, CA results in one dozen long stem red roses for a price of $80 even. The same search for East Lansing results in an identical bouquet at a price of $94.99. Stanford!
CHRIS: (17) Love this game. Best bowl match up other than the title game. Great defenses and run-oriented offenses. I’m taking the Cardinal because they have the better quarterback in Kevin Hogan.
TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL: UCF vs. BAYLOR
CODY: (35) I like chips and I like offense so this game is right up my alley, Baylor, by maybe 50.
DAN: (34) Baylor shouldn’t have any issues.
JOHN: (35) Willie Nelson went to Baylor. Pulitzer Prize winning editor John C. Bersia went to UCF. No offense Mr. Bersia, nut I’d much rather fiesta with Willie. Baylor!
CHRIS: (35) Baylor…all…day.
ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL: OKLAHOMA vs. ALABAMA
CODY: (30) This game could get out of hand real quickly too. If Alabama decides they care about winning a BCS game that doesn’t involve a crystal football then Oklahoma is in trouble. If they don’t, Oklahoma could still be in trouble. Alabama is the pick.
DAN: (35) See above, but replace Baylor with Alabama.
JOHN: (33) Americans consume more sugar than any other group of people on earth. What’s the main source of all this sugar you ask? Soda (or pop depending on the region). Alabamans consume more soda than do Oklahomans. In related news, the diabetes rate is higher in Alabama as well, but who’s keeping track. Alabama!
CHRIS: (32) Oklahoma rallied for a huge win over Oklahoma State in week 15. Alabama is not Oklahoma State. And Alabama is probably going to be ticked off about losing on that miracle return against Auburn. Crimson Tide rolls.
DISCOVER ORANGE BOWL: CLEMSON vs. OHIO STATE
CODY: (25) The last time these two schools played each other Woody Hayes punched a Clemson player and was fired the next day. I think that Braxton Miller is going to punch a few Tigers in the mouth with his ability and Ohio State rolls.
DAN: (9) Clemson is a good team and has talent on offense. But Ohio State seems to be more complete. Plus, Ohio State can run the ball as good as anyone can.
JOHN: (19) There is an Orangeburg County in South Carolina. Clemson is in South Carolina. There is a town named Orange in Ohio. Ohio State is in Ohio. It’s a tie! Wait, did you know that President James Garfield was born in Orange, OH? There were zero presidents born in Orangeburg County. None. Ohio State!
CHRIS: (23) Taj Boyd is overrated. Ohio State was overrated. Ill go with the Buckeyes.
AT&T COTTON BOWL: OKLAHOMA STATE vs. MISSOURI
CODY: (16) So let me get this straight. The Cotton Bow isn’t played in the Cotton Bowl anymore? Well that is confusing. Missouri should beat a Oklahoma State team that had a shot at a BCS game and then lost in heart breaking fashion to rival Oklahoma.
DAN: (5) Mizzou failed capitalize on their SEC Championship. I think they pick this one up over the Cowboys in a tough Cotton Bowl matchup.
JOHN: (2) According to the last Cotton Council International Buyers Guide, the state of Missouri produced 764,000 bales of cotton. That same Guide reveals that Oklahoma produced only 281,000. Mizzou!
CHRIS: (24) Missouri spent three quarters matching Auburn score-for-score before running out of gas at the end of the SEC title game. I really like this Missouri team though. They’re fun to watch. I’ll go Tigers here.
BBVA COMPASS BOWL: VANDERBILT vs. HOUSTON
CODY: (4) I am going to take Houston in this game because anything can happen at the BBVA Compass Bowl.
DAN: (13) Again, it’s an SEC team playing C-USA. Without seeing a whole lot of Houston this season, it’s tough to go against the premier conference in the country. Vandy rolls.
JOHN: (1) Pitt played in this bowl game the last three years. I don’t miss it. Did you know that Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez attended Vanderbilt? I know I didn’t until I just Googled “Vanderbilt”. Now we all know. Vanderbilt!
CHRIS: (19) Two teams I really know nothing about. I like the nickname “Commodores” better than “Cougars” so I’ll take Vandy.
GODADDY BOWL: ARKANSAS STATE vs. BALL STATE
CODY: (21) Apparently Godaddy is dropping the .com from their bowl sponsorship this year, in other news that nobody cares about this is the last bowl game played before the National Championship game and what a dandy it will be. I think that Ball State will pick up the win in this one if only because I couldn’t tell you what Arkansas State’s mascot is.
DAN: (32) Partially because I anticipate being down and needing points in this one to catch back up, I’m tabbing 32 on Ball State.
JOHN: (34) Arkansas State is located in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Ball State is located in Muncie, Indiana. According to the latest census figures, there were 26,111 households in Jonesboro, and there were 27,322 households in Muncie. That means that there are more daddies in Muncie. Ball State!
CHRIS: (29) Ball State will win this one. Did you know this marks the fourth straight season that Arkansas State has lost their head coach? That’s odd.
VIZIO BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: FLORIDA STATE vs. AUBURN
CODY: (8) WHOA NELLY!!!! I am anxiously awaiting this game hoping that my Seminoles can some how find a way to stop that absurd Auburn running game and praying that Auburn will not come up with an answer for Heisman winner Jameis Winston and the three headed running back committee the ‘Noles have used all season to power them to an undefeated 2013. I think that the Florida State defense will be too much for Auburn to handle and Florida State will win the last ever BCS National Championship.
DAN: (33) I wish Alabama were here. I think the Crimson Tide are the best team in college football aside from Florida State this year. This game would have given us that matchup we all wanted. Auburn ends this “Cinderella” run with a dominant win by Florida State.
JOHN: (31) Vizio televisions are most often seen in bars. The state of Florida has 10,301 citizens per bar. Alabama, the home of Auburn, has 18,261 per bar. That means it’s safe to say that the state of Florida owns more Vizio televisions. Florida State!
CHRIS: (15) Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston has to be the best player on the field in this game. If he is, Florida State wins. Auburn has a tremendous running game, but Florida State has a stout run defense with athletes all over the field. If they can make Auburn completely one-dimensional and limit yards after contact they will win. I’m taking Florida State.
